Hello Hooligans!!! We are thinking of pinning down one bar that we can call our own. A place that can be a base of operations...somewhere that we can go...on a regular basis...to start or end our evenings. After a few weeks, we intend to approach the management for some type of a "Hooligan Happy Hour Special" or something like it. A few places that have been suggested are:
The Libertine
Stonleigh P
Lee Harveys
Any and all suggestions should be brought forth...the goal is to make ourselves visable...and to give those who may want to join us a place to track us down. It's also...of course...a way to try to procure cheap beer! Let's find a spot that will have safe parking for us...and that will cater to us. This Wednesday...let's begin at the Libertine for libations and discussion. Drinks up at 7pm. See you all there!

Just in case I can't make it, I will vote for Lee Harveys.
1 vote for Lee Harveys...anyone else have any ideas??? I'm a big fan of the Stonleigh P...already know all of the bartenders...it would be an easy sell to get us some drink specials.
1 Douche
2 Douche
3 Douche
Staying within Policing here, promise.
Having said that, Harvey's is the most suitable on that list. Wednesdays are less Hipster than other nights.
However if we wanted to try something completely different. July Alley is cheap, in Deep Ellum and has a bitchin' atmosphere. Good and cheap Beer alike. Awesome Jukebox....Butthole Surfers after Bikini Kill....beat that anywhere in Dallas. Its also not a total shit hole and within 100 feet of Reno's.
Just the Hooligan in me, but I say we find a place less travelled by the others to call our own and to host. July Alley.
Do it.
Hear that?
Do it.
I guess we could go try July Alley, never been there
I have absolutely no business chiming in on this matter, seeing as i'm far off-radar for most of yous, but i am a career alcoholic, and therefore intimately acquainted with all the local drinking establishments. That having been said...
There are several beyond-dive bars in Dallas that you (we? yay!) could help keep in bidness:
1. Fireplace Lounge
This place is amazing. On Samuell, directly across from the Samuell Grand Park entrance. After dark, you have to knock to get in. 3-4 nights a week (varies), "Skittles" is the bartendress...and she's (he's? not sure...) quite the hoot. You'd literally own the place if you came en-masse for 1 night a week or more.
2. Willie's:
Retired fireman's bar @ Beacon & Grand. No liquor, but plenty of cheap cold beer. White folks are appreciated in this establishment (take that however you like). Good manners and proper dive-bar etiquette are appreciated here; dinner-at-grandma's behavior appreciated, but not necessarily enforced. Smells like the backseat cushion of a '72 Dodge Dart.
3. Juanita's:
No habla Engles, but who cares? Juanita herself can be found slinging cerveza here on most nights...and beer/pool can be had cheaply. For reference, "Pinche guero" is actually an endearing term to you honkies, FYI...
Again, take all that with a grain of salt. I'm but a poor hapless rapscallion with nowhere to call home. Actually, i'm a homeowner, but i really like to drink myself French and call people names, so maybe we can hang out someday.
I love all of you, and want to give you hard, hard hugs.
P.
We have some good suggestions here.
It's good to hear that we all think we need a 'fresh' (not so much fresh or new...) place of our own.
Paul, How about a guided tour of your dive bars?
so...
This Wednesday-
1. Libertine
2. July Alley
3. Stonleigh P
additions??
Paul...thanks for the suggestions. I say we try all of these new places...I'm very intrigued by Fireplace Lounge...knocking to get in?!? Sounds friggin sweet. Let's start at Libertine...maybe grab a bite...then take the tour. I'll look up all the addresses and get them mapped out.
i'd be happy to lead a caravan of ne'er do wells to these spots, assuming i don't have band practice. should know today or early tomorrow.
also, the Pasttime Tavern on S. Ervay is a good spot on non-hipster nights.
Lee Harvey's is good, but was much better when it was Moose's Baby's (that's right, two (2) possessives). I had the chance to buy the place for $17K back in '01, when i lived around the corner and frequented the joint. ask me sometime about the guy in the wheelchair knifing the one-legged dude. one of my fonder drinking memories...
Come on out to the Libertine Wed at 7pm Paul...we'll follow in your torchlight. I'll bring my brass knuckles...or brass monkey...something.
Hmmm, I love shady, but the Fireplace Lounge appears to be an establishment in an interesting part of town (Google street view) without an opportunity to supervise our motorcycles.
tour de bar it is :)
Well, there's a bit of irony for you. CoCo chimes in with a negative response towards a bar that may (or may not) have a tranny for a bartender. Am I the only one that finds that odd?
new and improved 'not so extreme anthony'
Fish don't you have gay bars in Houston that need some door knobs polished?
Bump...See you peeps tonight at 7
Running to Mockingbird and Levee appx 630 to 730. Meet up after. feel free to join, clean newly laid asphalt by Mo's old pad.
The Libertine is out...
done.
over.
beer- gathering locations
Stoneleigh P
Vickery
The Landing
ok, so...since I had band practice on Weds., i'm heading out this evening (friday). anyone interested in the old-man bar tour, say...7:30-ish?
btw - don't let James (not you, Hollywood - the bartender at the Landing) around your wife/girlfriend. He doesn't understand boundries that most guys do.
Better yet, next time you're there, just ask him how Paul is doing...
